is Galaxy Quest the greatest movie ever made?

yes. here's why.

theory 1.
tim=okay comedic actor :: Galaxy Quest=perfect
sigourney=decent actress :: Galaxy Quest=perfect
alan=brilliant actor :: Galaxy Quest=perfect
tony=great actor :: Galaxy Quest=perfect
justin=great comedic actor :: Galaxy Quest=perfect
sam=really great actor :: Galaxy Quest=perfect
daryl=good comedic actor :: Galaxy Quest=perfect
enrico=good actor :: Galaxy Quest=perfect

conclusion 1.
it is the only movie in which not all of the actors are brilliant and yet each turns in a perfect performance.

I like Godfather II better, and maybe about 50 others, but I absolutely agree about the cast. Rickman, A+. Weaver, A+. Rockwell, A+. Allen, ...well, you get the idea. That movie was perfect for them all. I have written a letter to exactly one actor in my life. Tony Shalhoub. Right after Monk ended, and I finished weeping, I saw him on Netflix in a thing called "Feed the Fish."(I never go to the theater anymore. I wait until they beam it into my home) A sweet little movie shot up in Tony's home town, Green Bay. He's the sheriff, and his daughter falls in love with a guy who comes up there to write his next children's book....sorry, spoiler alert. See the movie if you haven't. From the cabbie in Quick Change, to Jeebs in MIB, to Fred Kwan in GQ, there's absolutely no role the guy can't kill. I just wrote him to belatedly thank him for bringing Adrain Monk to the screen, and to wish him luck in the future. One of my absolute favorites.

"this old house hour" was over and i was flipping through to basketball and found Quest. stopped everything to watch it. he's got one of my favorite lines in MIBII: "are you allergic to shellfish?"

Michael said...

One of the great pleasures of Quest is watching Alan Rickmann's make-up slowly peel off his face.

when he was on "talk of the nation" rickman said dr. lazarus was one of his favorite roles.

may start on the exterior if this weather holds. kind of excited about it even when the bandage slows me down.

Michael said...

Perfectly cast. You're right, it's the greatest movie ever. Justin also hilarious. Speak of the devil and Die Hard comes on AMC. Rickman kills in this,

Weather looks warm, and partially wet here for the next week. Exterior projects? What's on the agenda?

plywood inventory/maybe ripping, shoring up studs. may be a spring/summer of quasi-camping. also, do i need to wd40 the tablesaw blade if it's ruff going or just slow down?

Michael said...

Oil won't help. If it's bogging when you push a little hard on the rip, obviously slow down a bit. Make sure the blade is square to the table. Just a little off and it's fighting you the whole rip. You know all this....raise the blade as high as it'll go and use a square to make sure it's at 90 to the table. There's also a chance the blade isn't perfectly flat. You can tell that by watching it as it slows down/stops. Watch for a little wobble. If it wobbles, ...new blade.

My first scheduled camping trip is 5/21. Northern Wisconsin again. Can't wait. Due to a near-fatal car wreck in Oct I had to get a new car. Picked up a Chevy HHR. Damned if my camping air mattress doesn't fit perfectly in the back of this thing. Makes the tent almost unnecessary, but what's camping w/o a tent?

This site here is helpful.

i'll double check it tomorrow. i'm tired. a good tired. snl is a rerun but a terrible one: charles barkley. maybe a download from netflix. it's still weird waking up enthusiastic. i thought a lot today about some of my st. pat's day adventures. i should be in jail or dead. i'm not. i think that's mom's fault, the old bag.

Michael said...

The difference between sober tired and loaded tired is the difference between good sleep and bad. In fact, I've noticed how much better I sleep in general now that I'm substance free. I used to think a few hits of weed helped me sleep. Never really noticed that I didn't feel rested when I woke up. Funny you say that, I was just looking at the clock wondering if 8PM is too early to sack on a Saturday.

St. Pat's is a day I've always stayed home. I was just looking at some tweets from friends who are tearing it up in the Loop tonight. I worry about them more than envy them. I must be getting to be an old bag too.

R Fed/Rafa on ESPN2.

David Marlow said...

is abc covering tennis tomorrow? saw isler school djoco today.

Michael said...

Yeah, ABC coverage starts at 1.

R Fed just went up 5-2 in the 2nd. (6-3 in the 1st) One game away from finals. Rafa looks disinterested.

Michael said...

Break for Rafa. Down 5-3 now.

David Marlow said...

seriously, keep me posted.

Michael said...

So, Rafa hold serve, it goes to 5-4, R Fed is at 40-30, about to serve Match Pt,....and....rain delay!

David Marlow said...

another rain delay? i'm addicted to itunes. re-bought "feelin kinda patton", i think the most important album, music and otherwise, of the early 21st century. i've stolen extensively from him, obviously.

Michael said...

You have got to follow him on Twitter...‏ @pattonoswalt At a campaign stop, right now, Rick Santorum forces yet another gay cock-slap scenario from his fevered brain & tries to save America.

(I flliped away from tennis, and came back to Fab Five- The Story of Michigan Basketball. I'll assume RF finished off Rafa)

David Marlow said...

i'm so behind on the twittering.

Michael said...

Trust me. Go grab a nic (if you haven't already.) Type in a few names of people you like, and just read for starters. You don't have to tweet a thing. Patton is terrific. Alec Baldwin was made for 140 character drive-bys. The Stangel brothers (Letterman writers) are prolific. Also, people you might expect to be funny, Steve Martin say, are just not made for Twitter.

Maybe you're the plucky comic relief. Perfect.

David Marlow said...

did you see Moon? i thought that was kind of a triumph. and he stole Hitchhiker's Guide.

"I don't even have a last name!"

Speaking of The Office, let's play can you SPOT RAINN WILSON

i swear that one guy is from Kids In The Hall. i hope you guys appreciate how awkward it is to type with this club finger. i also hope i have another day tomorrow like i had today. these good spirits might be addictive; i hope that's okay.

Michael said...

Gotta be the Kids in The Hall guy who held his thumb and index finger in front of his face and pretended to squash your head like a grape.

Tomorrow is going to be a great day, even if Lou Ferrigno doesn't get fired. G'nite Swit & Bright.

Speaking of scary, I saw Brittney Griner dunk really up close today.

David Marlow said...
