Are you a roller coaster girl, Erin? We have Dorney Park here, it's owned by Cedar Point and has 3 or 4 famous roller coasters, including the original wooden one with a 160 foot drop. Makes my stomach flip just thinking about it. My idea of a wild ride is the Scrambler. Or the Tilt-a-Whirl. Or that one wild ride I had (back a spell) that had nothing whatsoever to do with amusement parks.

Nancy, my dad used to take my sister and me out of school after the park opened in May so that we could ride without having to wait in lines. Two years in a row, he did it on Victoria Day and the place was lousy with Canadians.

I love that song too .... I refuse to call her "Sarah" as I know too many wonderful women and girls named Sarah.

She is SarahPalin and she is, as we say in the south, ate up with the dumbass.

I can see her running around Boston looking for the Liberty Bell crying "Damn that Obama, he has stolen the Liberty Bell!"

I can't do roller coasters. Splash Mountain at WDW is as crazy as I get. Enjoy Cedar Point, Erin!

It's my kid's name, and I hate that she shares it, minus a letter with that moron. Anyway, said kid went to Dorney yesterday and fell in love with all the coasters. After years of being too frightened to go. Peer pressure is good for some things. My husband swears that we will leave the country if she became president -- the only time he has ever said that about anyone, and he usually views those threats as the worst kind of posturing. And he's a Rep. She's toxic.

Perfect weekend for getting stuff done - hope you've made plans with your brothers.

I wonder how this Sarah Palin/Michelle Bachman thing is going to play out. Both occupy the sorta-hot conservative-style girl-power niche and vie for the same demographic (poor Urquhart's going to need treatment for tennis elbow if they compete outright), but one is crafty grifter crazy, and the other is more of a true believer kind of whacko. I think Bachman in the long game.

I went to Cedar Point a couple summers ago. I looked at that drag race ride swaying up there in teh breeze and quietly concluded that I didn't need a thrill that badly. Not fear--getting on that thing just didn't make any rational sense.

[Holy fuck, the comment worked?]

I believe I'm within shouting distance of topazz.

Will be in Brattleboro on Sunday and Monday nights.

Hmmm.

Watching the French right now. I read the article you linked to, rundeep, and I'm not entirely convinced one way or the other. I would find it very disappointing if he were juicing, but I suppose (in this age) not surprising. I'm enjoying them play, though, from my new vantage as would-be tennis player.

topazz, you're not by any chance from the town Billy Joel sang about, are you? I grew up going to Dorney Park. My first roller coaster ride, at age four, was on the old wooden one. I bumped my tooth on the safety bar at the top of the big climb before the drop, which is all I remember of the ride. I don't know what the hell my dad was thinking, taking me on that thing.

Cindy, are you near my neck of the woods yet?

Oh, and hi!

Hi Tia. I think the chances of an extremely muscular guy who says he doesn't go to the gym and is at the top of a sport with a pretty nonexistent drug testing program not using are vanishingly small. Add that he has a propensity for rule-bending (thanks for the coaching Uncle Toni), is from a country with a well-established network of doctors who give drugs to premiere athletes, and the admitted use of a medical procedure (the oxygenated blood trick) widely used by cyclists as an excuse for doping, and I think the odds go even higher. He may not be using, but he would have to be super-human to resist all that pressure. If anyone is using, probably everyone is.

Hi Tia - I'm in Brattleboro ... but heading east from here. May hit your town on the way back from Canada.

What the heck is a Maple Cremee and where do I get one?

Tia, yes! I don't live in Allentown anymore, but I'm only about 5 minutes from Dorney Park. You probably wouldn't recognize it now, from the old-fashioned amusement park it used to be in the 70's and 80's. Speaking of old fashioned, the best haunted house ride I ever took (Disneyworld with the hologram ghosts doesn't count) was at an old amusement park called Knobles Grove in PA. My kids and I were screaming so loud they actually sent someone in to see if we got hurt somehow.

Knobels Grove. I remember it well.
