piqua, yet

still there. spent 3 nights and 4 days on demolition and wood salvage. cold but some sun. moonpie loved it, just the 2 of us. found out al was frantic the whole time i was there; something about it being too soon. i tried to explain to him how i feel spoiled here, with heat and plumbing, and that if i want to drink i will no matter where i am. he was not comforted.

i'm beginning to realize that i wasn't nearly as coddled as i thought everyone thought i was. piqua has so many awesome possibilities, though i know beer is out there doing pushups, waiting for me to slip up. just a bit. well, i won't. but i don't want to jinx it!

also, hey.

Hey man! Good to see that Moonpie and you are still knocking about.

So, about nature: today we saw some birds squawking and flying around in the top of a semi-dead water oak tree. So out come the binoculars. Over the next 30 minutes we watched a HUGE effing snake devour a Northern Flicker.

I cannot tell you the surreal and almost Hollywood-esque bizareness of the whole thing. The gorgeous taupe feathers of the head, the blaze of red in the back, as it hung upside down, the snake's extended mouth eating the damn bird from the back end up - WHOLE! WTF? All of this happening as the snake is curled around a bare branch, I don't know, 90-100 feet in the air. Looking through the binoculars against a cobalt blue sky.

It was like The Discovery Channel, Wild Kingdom and Magnolia all rolled into one. I expected frogs to start dropping out of the sky.

So, hey.

That's good news Swit. And you're right about the drinking too. You are in control of your actions. And they don't use that ODAAT thing for nothing. It's true, and every day you go without fucking up is a victory. And fuck backsliding! Forward, forward (and always whirling etc etc.) Let me know if I can help with anything. Bookmark this okay? Stop by and say hi.

Cindy: wow, what a perfectly chilling description, I could visualize that whole snake/bird scene completely! switters: wouldn't it be great if all of us who are in a transition of some sort (and we all are - every single one of us here) could come out and spend a few days in Piqua with you (I originally typed "a week" and thought better of it) anyway, we could have a good old-fashioned barn raising/Habitat for Switters/Extreme Makeover-but-without-Ty kind of shindig. You'd get your drywall and insulation up before the winter sets in and we'd all get a chance to vent and psycho-analyze each other like the golden days of the fray.

Every single one of us. I'm in. I even have a recipe for dog biscuits that I could make beforehand, housewarming kind of offering. For Moonpie.

I would bring apple pie and fried chicken. Something about Iowa makes me want to go all Mother Abigail.

Ohio, I mean.

I suck at drywall, but I plumb with stunning adequacy. Possibly because it doesn't have to look pretty.

I guess I can bring that veggie lasagna thing I do, and some pumpkin cheesecake. If I'm going to be teetotaling, I'm going to consume something unhealthy, dammit.
