Field Of Day Dreams

These are a few of the pictures Pat, a very friendly real estate lady, sent to me of the property in The Greater Titonka-Lakota Metropolitan Area.

I made an offer on the property Wednesday morning.

I'm nervous. I don't know if I'm more afraid they'll refuse the offer, or more anxious that they'll actually accept it. I'm trying not to jinx it. I'd appreciate the same concern from all y'all.

Add the fact that NPR for what seemed like most of the day took place in Des Moines and Davenport (urban farming, food safety, investing in small farms, fresh vegetable and fruit in schools -- it was truly eerie, in an infectiously positive way), and I'm beginning to believe that mom and dad are literally chomping at the bit.

Maybe I am, too.

When I was scheming late in 2007 to figure out a way to move closer to mom, I told her I was trying to find and interpret "the signs". When she got sick merely months later, she confessed that the cancer had cured her of searching out "signs" or divining any meaning from them.

Can't say I blame her.

Easy, fella.

I wonder: Does checking for an email from the realtor every 90 seconds or so constitute any sort of mania or pathology?

nah, that's normal behavior. it's like waking up early on christmas.

Like I want to reach right through my monitor and shake your hand.

Are all of the visible buildings included in the deal?

On my way home. But quickly, Smut, there are about 4 or 5 outbuildings on the 4ish acre homestead, and then the additional 8ish tillable acres. Haven't heard back from Pat yet. There was another offer, and I think it was more money than mine. You can see in the top pic, in the distance, the hog station. Talk to you guys tomorrow, I hope.

But... but... where's the porch? You can't properly enjoy an Iowa thunderstorm without a porch! Top of Jesse's list of improvements, I guess.

Any word from Pat?

I have to admit, tia, that I've already pictured setting the 6"x6" footers in the ground for just such a purpose. Jesse, Al and I could probably finish it out over the course of a long weekend. Maybe even do a wrap-around. Honestly, Al just finished his back porch this Spring. Turned out great.

Belated: Sorry about the Sox.

(Yankees rule all!)

Yeah okay, I'll pretend like I'm not checking your blog every couple of hours for an update.

Haven't heard anything back yet.

Very pretty weekend down here.

Matt Ryan looked terrible. And Bama should've lost. Arkansas was homer'd on that penalty call.

Ryan looked pretty good against the Bears. Tricky thing playing QB, especially for a 2nd year guy. He's going to have a nice career I think.

Agree about the Tide, and the Razors.

Still haven't heard back. It's been a week. So I don't think the news is good. Don't know how to feel, exactly. Makes me a little bit sick to look at those pictures.

Really good article on LeBron James in Vanity Fair. What a great, substantial guy he is. Didn't we all already know this?

At least the world series starts tonight. And Transformers 2: Rise Of The Fallen (Or Something) ships to the house tonight!

Great article. Like the way they all dealt with the coach leaving unexpectedly. Also, the "we need more niggers on this team" incident shows maturity you wouldn't expect from 5 high school kids.

Have you ever bought a home before? I haven't but I'm seriously considering taking Barack up on that 8 grand offer.

I bought this place Labor Day Weekend of 2001. I've kind of grown to hate the place, though it's not the fault of the place, per se. It's just who I've become.

Now is a great time to buy. But don't buy a place as an investment. Buy a home. My brother always says that you don't buy money; you buy a place to retire in.

Blizzards out west. Feel that pull? It's the time of year when we'd all gather back at the bus barn to get re-upped to drive nights. Opening day was Thanksgiving, but the area always opened the week before for the "locals".

(Ohio University. MAC Conference, go figure.)

I agree with your brother. If I buy a place, it'll be long term.

Speaking of the MAC, I'd forgotten that Roethlisberger went to M of O. Fast company for your bro.

Saw a guy doing a weather report from Boulder. Maybe as much as 18 inches along the entire front range. Jesus. It's not even November.

First time there, I was very surprised to find Denver basically unprepared for heavy snow. Couple of inches and that town gets paralyzed.

I'm going man, and I'm not bringing my skis either. Just a matter of picking my route. I'd like to go up 285 and head out to the western slope. Gunnison, Crested Butte. Maybe find to time to swing down towards Durango. Getting the itch now buddy. All this talking about it.

I'm no real estate genius, but I'm thinking that if you haven't heard anything it probably just means that no decision has been made. Maybe the sellers aren't enthusiastic about either number? Have you been bugging your agent? Seems that here's where Pat needs to work his/her magic.
