I joined the Royal Wedding page on Facebook. Not sure yet about the alarm for Friday morning. :)

Maybe if there is a live blog going on here.....

Blech, it's bad enough that it's so hard for societies to get rid of infestations like that. The Brits should be embarrassed for ennobling 'em. On the plus side, they've made some impressive strides against inbreeding these last couple generations.

Wouldn't watch the wedding, but I'd read a liveblog.

rundeep said...

Romance and a Retard sounds like a great title for a Ben Stiller film. I think they are adorable, actually. She's gorgeous, he's cute, and they seem so normal. May they breed royals for the next century....

bright said...

I'm watching live and then going to a friend's house to watch it again. I think we're going to put on formal wear too. OF COURSE we're liveblogging, people. COME ON, I cannot even believe we have to discuss this.

Cindy said...

LOL! And here ... the REAL Royal Blog is here ... right?

(I really just can't stomach anything on the Fray...sorry)

David Marlow said...

glee makes me cry. does that mean i'm gay?

David Marlow said...

oh great. another thing to worry about.

bright said...

No, it's all the rage nowadays. Like upcycling and fauxhawks and steampunk and whatnot.

David Marlow said...

hey bright, is anyone else watching the voice? it's pretty good.

bright said...

According to my facebook news feed, Kujo and Dave both love it. Tuesday is Quartet and Chorus night for Mr. B, so he's not here to watch. I'll have to tell him to put in in his hulu queue.

David Marlow said...

that is one nasty looking sky.

bright said...

We lost power for a minute.

David Marlow said...

i would stand next to my dad in the garage and watch it rain. heaven.

Cindy said...

We're about to have a mighty storm here. The wind is really whipping things up right now. It's hot. And the trees are so full of leaves they bend low with each gust. So far the sky is blue, but you can tell.

I love Glee too.

Am going back to finish up Season 2 of Parks & Rec.

Cindy said...

My word was twash.

bright said...

I don't know how it is that the wind can howl like this and not shred our really-needs-replaced-and-it-would-be-so-nice-to-let-the-homowner's-insurance-pay-for-it-isn't-that-why-we-pay-that-darn-bill-anyhow roof. By the way, first weekend of June is the re-roofing party. It's BYO Scaffolding!

i think i'm in love with justin timberlake. does that make me gay? got invite to my oldest niece's wedding in the mail today. too bad she's so stupid and ugly, practically deformed. if i were a dandelion farmer i'd be rich. also it sure would be nice if we had a president that was born in this country instead of in hawaii, this whole other place!

Cindy said...

Everyone who is in love with Justin Timberlake is gay. Just ask Britney.

I can't wait til my nieces get married. I hope they use dandelions in their bouquets.

I heard Rush says our First Lady is fat. Ha. I'd like to give him a piece of my fat mind.

bright said...

I have no nieces at all - only nephews. They're probably all gay too.

rundeep said...

My only niece is already married. And I have no nephews. But I have this super-duper cute little grandniece now. Awesome.

Will watch the Voice, if I get a chance. Stay safe my Midwestern friends.

Michael said...

Alabama getting its ass kicked too Swit. Hope any friends/family or whatever are OK. Jeezus. Saw an SNL cast member say of Timberlake: "If wasn't rich and famous he could have been a regular on the show." (I like the sidewalk omelette costume.)

Cindy said...

We are about to get hit with the southern storm. Thunder is rumbling in the distance and it is hot and still.

The crickets and tree frogs are incredibly loud. I wish I could tape them for you and provide a soundtrack.

I imagine we will lose electricity today.

I'm doing ancestry research, and it's really hard to go back through the mothers. I am so anxious to find out more about my mother's maternal grandmother, but I have only a name, and very little else.

Then I turn to my dad's dad and I'm trying to go back into a sea of Joneses. Really. Robert Henry Jones. Nice. Only delivers about 3 million hits. Add to that he was a rather shady character so probably used pseudonyms.

Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions about the Adirondacks?

David Marlow said...

oh jesus.

David Marlow said...

tuscaloosa is a great great town. oh no.

Keifus said...

Yeah, looks like you got out of the area just in time.

I'd sure prefer to hate Justin Timberlake--boy band, looks, dancing skills, charm, appealing actor, can probably even sing without the computer for all I know, and wasn't he a mouseketeer for that matter? an escapee of teh Disney machine? has anything ever come difficult for this kid?--but I can't seem to do it. He seems a good choice for a gay crush.

Watched American Idol again last night for some reason. What I want to know is where did all this sincerity come from? Okay, we have some Touching Moments (I like James' voice--there, I said it--and I'm pretty sure every metal artist starts out as a dork, so appeals to authenticity are overblown) and it's fun to be surprised by talent and growth and all, but I can't ignore the context of the retarded (oops) judges, the broken premise (hey, let's cover the lost hits of the 1960s to show how original and relevant these kids are), celebration of the mediocre, and Ryan's constantly escalating manic douchiness (coke, you think?), and it doesn't deserve to pass without notice or comment. Maybe the Voice is different, but I'm skeptical. The royal wedding? It's screaming for a MST3K-style accompaniment. It's the very least us commoners owe 'em.

Or maybe it's just me. My wife hates watching TV with me too. I should have friends or something.

i think i'm in love with keifus. does that make me gay? mike, nature doesn't care. we will never learn that music is universal. my dad loved music in the house.

Keifus said...

Makes you indiscriminate maybe.

Cindy said...

MST3000! The absolute best.

I'm also in love with Keifus and I'm sure that makes me gay.

So be it.

Royal Wedding commentary - Friday morning. Can't wait!

Mike Nelson is one of my Facebook likes. Does that make me gay? Just watched Prince of Space and Touch of Satan back-to-back a few weeks ago.

Crow: Now we see Lady Kate exiting the Royal Carriage...

Servo: Surprisingly short run-on time for a 70s carriage.

bright said...

Harry needs to stand up straight.

bright said...

Serbia has a royal family, apparently. Prince Albert did alright.

bright said...

The Royal Shortbuses might be the best part so far.

Cindy said...

What is the Duchess of Cornwall wearing? I'm dying to know!

Cindy said...

Good morning, Bright!

Cindy said...

What - they didn't allow Fergie to come?? Awww, what a shame!

Oooh, I love the Queen's yellow!

bright said...

Good morning, Cindy.

Samantha Cameron is hatless, I repeat, hatless.

bright said...

Good lord, didn't someone tell Camilla which way they were going to walk?

Cindy said...

Kate looks lovely! Just beautiful!

Cindy said...

I had to turn off the American commentators. Good lord, they were tedious. I'm watching Georgia Public Broadcasting, which is channeling the BBC.

bright said...

BBC America, and brightling is up now too.

"Mom, will my wedding be like that?"

Cindy said...

Wow, she is stunning! I'm about to cry!

Cindy said...

"Yes, dear, of course"???

bright said...

Pippa's doing a good job with the toddlers, but mermaid was probably a dumb choice.

Cindy said...

Are there always trees inside the church? I love that! I don't remember them from my visit.

bright said...

Oh, Harry.

bright said...

Oh, he just leaned over and whispered "you're beautiful." Where are those tissues?

Cindy said...

Honestly, I love the Brits. Sing it, Sir Elton!

Listen to all of them singing. Even Prince Phillip!

(Honestly, I miss Diana. I could cry just thinking about her)

Cindy said...

I know, I know. My daughter and I both said the same.

Cindy said...

William Arthur Phillip Louis.

bright said...

Cracking up over all his names, they are.

Cindy said...

Oh they are just precious!

bright said...

Oh no, she had the Sophie Wessex fat finger moment!

Cindy said...

"Betwixt them made." I wish I'd had that at my wedding!

bright said...

Charles Wesley, y'all.

Cindy said...

So many birds without so many feathers.

bright said...

Beatrice and Eugenie, honestly.

Cindy said...

I know, right.

And, my husband says young James is reading too slowly.

Cindy said...

How cute are those little boys?

Cindy said...

St. Catherine of Sienna! Love her.

My daughter just asked "So, my wedding won't be quite this epic?"

A simple no. :)

Cindy said...

I love their little looks, and smiles. Like they don't quite take themselves too seriously.

I wonder what the Queen thinks of the makeup and dress choices of Beatrice and Eugenie.

Cindy said...

Although, when I see these trees in the church, I may try to do something like that in at least one of my daughters' weddings.

Cindy said...

I can't believe its the next generation. I don't feel old enough to see Harry and William so grown up.

And, I miss Diana.

bright said...

Bring me my arrows of desire!

The music has been awesome.

Cindy said...

I love the glasses on the choirboys. A real showcase!

Sarah Palin can suck it.

Cindy said...

Trumpets! I think my daughter could have some trumpets, right?

bright said...

Samantha Cameron should just be banned from everything. I can't believe she didn't wear a hat.

Harry's probably dying to tweet brb.

Cindy said...

LOL! If anyone could figure out how to tweet from the chapel, it would be Harry!

Cindy said...

What a beautiful ceremony. Really.

Bright - have a great day.

I'll have the Crown Imperial March in my head all day.

God save the Queen!

bright said...

No, I cannot feed you breakfast, brightling, I am busy!

bright said...

Yay! Loved it!

David Marlow said...

i'm moved. despite the today show tools ruining everything. the music was... sublime. perfect. they seem like good kids. and i knew there was a reason i've always loved harry. does that make me gay? i know it's just a stupid royal wedding, but... just beautiful. that's right, i cried during the vows! bugger off! moonpie barked at queen liz.

bright said...

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”

David Marlow said...

i don't know what i'm meant to be. but could she have been any more perfect? she's a walking poem.

Cindy said...

Love you switters .... thanks for the wonderful morning.

Do keep crying.

And I completely agree about the music. Almost makes me want to go C of E.

I really loved everything about it. Well, except the young princessess's hats.

David Marlow said...

count down to the kiss? really? i guess i am a monarchist. monachrist?

David Marlow said...

2 kisses. god help me.

bright said...

I'm getting ready to go over to Robin's to watch it again. I packed my Royal Doulton and made a hat.

Mwah!

Keifus said...

Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.

That is a frightening quote, told to royalty, and it's not like the Brits didn't give it a go. Fortunately, it's well known that queen Elizabeth has been conducting secret royal immortality experiments in ye olde Imperial laboratorie in the basement of the Tower, and neither Charles or William has any shot of the chair opening up in their comparatively short lifetimes.

Will looks just like his old man, doesn't he? (Maybe Harry does too, whoever that may be.) Kate is admittedly lovely. (I never saw what it was about Diana.)

Do they all just go and get drunk now?

On Fridays I let myself run around in circles instead of chaining myself to teh rack, and I didn't catch much of it on TV. It does amuse me that Fox News has a lengthy special coverage of the wedding. Isn't this the nooze channel that has spent 3 years lionizing the local chuckleheads in tricorn hats and pissing about "big government"? What was that revolution about anyway? Buncha closet peasants, as if there was any doubt.

Couldn't there be a way to celebrate beauty and pageantry without attaching it to parasitic institutions like this? (The Oscars maybe...) I mean, I'm scrawling this out before I go to work, and I'm sorta running late. The distinction is noted.

But you guys are being so sweet about it, and I feel bad for my cynicism. Sorry.

Can't decide if I liked the Office episode or not. Good Michael exit. Will Farrell doesn't seem quite right for the show though, too comic, and it doesn't look like they'll do the right thing and wind it down.

K (and thanks to you, I am now haunted by the deeper meanings in the "Flintsones" theme. A yabba dabba doo time? Umm....)

Cindy said...

Great commentary, K, engineering-cynicism duly noted. I'm putting it down to the fact that switters threw you over for Prince Harry.

I'm a season behind on the office, so I didn't see it.

I don't think I have the stomach for watching all the skinny ladies in super high heels with ridiculous/fabulous hats walk around on cobblestone paths.

So, ciao!

Cindy said...

Okay, so can anyone tell me why I'm so incredibly sad?

Could it possibly have something to do with the (weird but true) fact that I was devastated by Diana's death, and somehow this whole day has brought back that emotion?

I have no idea why I reacted as I did back then, and truly I have no idea why I feel this way now. But I could just sit down and cry and cry and cry.

How weird is that?

rundeep said...

Poor Cindy. I always thought Diana was a dolt. A very pretty, ill-used sad, barmy dolt. Tragic death and all, but I never understood the attraction to her. Tell me, really, why you are so moved. I am genuinely curious.

You guys are freaking hardcore. I was baking quiche for a fundraiser (no, really) and sleeping while you folks were up watching. (Honestly, no DVRs?). Anyway: she was gorgeous, he was gorgeous, the wedding was perfect the dress is a modern take on Princess Grace (Philly Girl! I pass her house every day). Everything was exquisite, not the least of which their islands of little personal bliss in the most public time. Blessings to them. And I will own Pippa's dress. (not the evening one, that was so prommy -- the Burton for McQueen Ivory column).

PS. Once went to a black tie function where they had trumpeters who announced your arrival. It was a hoot.

topazz said...

Pippa is gorgeous, and that beautiful dress hugged her every curve. Harry and William still look like they did when they were boys. I laughed out loud Cindy, when you wondered what the Queen thought of Bea and Eugenie's hats (and the trashy gowns they changed into for the after party). I bet they deliberately do it to taunt her - they probably put on cockney accents around her too.

Cindy said...

rundeep - I don't know, it may have been because we were roughly the same age... she married before me but her life was so public and the having kids, marriage, etc was all part of the culture when I was 'being married' and 'having kids' and felt myself so identified with what I was doing that I felt a bit lost myself.

I was also in the middle of studying Jung and so she was the topic of conversation in so many lectures, workshops and intensives as an example of someone, some human being, being projected with others' archetypal energy .... and how it can destroy someone. Marilyn Monroe was another, but Diana was so much more present and contemporary.

And then the car crash, such a useless, senseless, violent death. Not to mention that the driver (Henri Paul) had the same name as my college boyfriend...whatever, I just felt like I had participated in that death, like I was somehow responsible too.

I think she was very beautiful. And I think she came across as very vulnerable. Yet she also made ridiculous choices, and had an absurd naivete that I found irritating. Maybe that was what made it feel so personal. I mean, I may have opinions and laugh at Britney, Angelina, Obama and Brett Favre, but I really don't think about them enough to get irritated.

And, I was young. Maybe that was what I was mourning on Friday more than anything. Because being young, for me, is definitely over. I'm okay with that, really! But perhaps there is a sadness that comes with that okayness.

Whoa! Enough already - it's Saturday, gorgeous, and I'm going into the garden then the grocery store. And this afternoon it's Il Trovatore at the MET (at the movie theater).

Ciao!
