Sorry I missed this. Walked the puppies, missed a lot of it. Saw the Carrie Underwood wannabe, Casey and a bit of Lusk Daddy.

I kind of hated all of them this week except the creepy "rocker" dude. I don't think he has a whole lot of style range, and I keep wanting to dislike his performance, but he's been really sharp about picking songs that showcase what he can do. Also he's been sharp about picking songs that I don't loathe, a major plus.

I sort of like the satyr-looking kid, but a Joe Cocker song is not designed to feature vocal talent, and last night he reminded us that he's not quite Taylor Hicks. Pia Whassername can sing nicely, but no one should ever sing a Celine Dion song, least of all Celine herself. Can't stand Jake's voice. He sings like he's just downed about four highballs.

I only watched the end of last week's gratuitous selection episode--amusingly, I played Rock Band with my family instead, maybe to remind myself just how bad karaoke can be--and found at 9:55 that my two favorite understudies--the kid who looks like gay Geddy Lee and the girl with the cape and the veils--didn't even get to stand awkwardly around for a chance at the wild card.

Let's put it this way: you know the show's gone down the tubes when Randy has somehow become the smart one.

Keith (Sorry for the length of this--it's therapeutic. If I never mentioned it, blathering on about this wretched show a couple years ago on quiblit was one of the highlights of my online experience.)

May I suggest a complete totga fast for Lent. I think it would be a good spiritual discipline for you.

Speaking of crying, so I was invited to be on a reasonably good regional panel of a National Organization for a conference in April in Dallas. You know, prestige. Boss said I could take a vacation day to do it, but they won't reimburse me any travel costs. Because their reputation is so good. I need out of here.

"We're in nut country now" (JFK to Jackie on the morning of November 22, 1963) Trust me, aside from the JFK museum, there is absolutely nothing to do in Dallas. (You won't need more than a day)

I got a new gardening experiment to botch this year: I ordered some hop rhizomes yesterday. Hard to imagine it's already early March, and I'm going to be cutting it pretty close for the little Oregonian roots. (I can't do anything about it here yet.) Going to dig out a few hostas for 'em from a place they like. A good sign maybe--they thrive there, and seem to have a similar yearly schedule as the hops.

pretty good fire going. looking forward to the ohio state v. penn state game. hope you guys are having a good sunday. moonpie is under the impression that you can never have enough dead moles in the house. she's my angel.

Enjoy the game - basketball? Are we rooting for one team in particular?

Just listened to this on NPR : http://transom.org/?p=518 Oh my god is it good.

"After the Forgetting" ... beautiful.

I like the image of you watching the TV by the fire, with the computer on, and Moonpie keeping the dead moles in good supply. Satisfies all the senses!

At 5 I'm going to participate in an adaptation of the book of Job (adapted by my husband) and performed (and videotaped) for a class project of his. These sacrifices never seem to stop.

I can't imagine how it will look - but I'm ready: "Are you still holding on to your innocence? Curse God and Die!" .... that's my line. I have to go make a scroll to throw at him.

Have a great afternoon!
