i love the movies. though i've not seen any of them, i love them. all of them. the movies! the hosts are 2 of my favorites. i've made no secret of my crush on anne, but i have made a secret of my crush on jim. smooch!
anyways, i love the movies. love them.
(pretty much pulling for firth. would love to look like him at my age.)

3 hours of Anne Hathaway is all I need from this. I would suggest to whoever is running the thing to keep the self-congratulatory stuff to a minimum. Economies collapsing, revolutions, earthquakes, volcanoes...probably not a good time for the 45 carat Harry Winston earrings.
mike, at the risk of betraying my own well documented bigotry, i've never seen more attractive arabs in libya. (sp?)
I've never seen so much Libya!
Amy Adams lovely in blue, and that leads me to think that Isla Fisher should also wear blue when we all go out for that 3 way date.
I'm reading up on my guy Roger Ebert. Rough stretch for Rog. Chicago Symphony paid him a tribute on Friday. Tell me that guy doesn't deserve some sort of honorary Oscar. Think of the cash he and Siskel brought through the turnstyles.
Agree btw about Franco. True Grit's the only one I've seen, but his movie is next on the list. Great actor. Smart guy. Self-deprecating, which is key.
roger has new life. and a loving wife. stood by him. underrated critic. gene's death was a shock.
did i mention that helena carter is a goddess?
ah, maria menounos (menunous, menounous?)?
may god, or whoever, look out for those brave kids in the middle of the east.
I can't see her without thinking of Fight Club. Awesome!
Took Spacey from the Omni to the Hard Rock whatever year Usual Suspects came out. (95?) Right at the end of the limo thing. Him and 2 publicists. I hadn't seen Suspects yet, so I told him I loved him in Glengarry Glen Ross. Awwwkwarrrrrrd. You should have seen his face.
Helena B is an absolute goddess. Love her!
I've seen King's Speech and Black Swan... kept meaning to see the others.
Oh wait, I did see Toy Story 3.
I agree Mikey, about the earrings.
I agree switters, about the brave kids in the middle of the east.
So far they've been pretty subdued. Lotta black and earth tones.
Someone in their speech, hopefully Anne and James in their opening, will send props to troops, and to the rest of the world tuning in on the intertubes. They know that this is the toy section in the department store of reality. A great 3 hours of escapism for everybody. But they won't party it up too much I suspect.
Russell Brand was adorable - bringing his mum!
And I kind of like Mr. B - the music teacher!
"the toy section in the department store of reality"
i knew there was a reason i liked you. into the 60s today.
cindy, hey. may god bless them and keep them. also, a favor: could you pray that cameron falls back in love with me and moves up here (forgodsakesdon'ttelltia)?
(fell in love with helena during room with a view.)
I keep your very best welfare in my prayers every day. For real.
I fell in love with Helena then too ... still am.
I love Cate Blanchett's dress!
And she has wrinkles about her eyes when she smiles ... she is simply gorgeous!
Oops, Marisa has on those earrings, Mike.
Saw those too. Conspicuous by their presence. Our TV Guide channel just had Helena B and Helen Miren having a nice impromptu chat while Chris Harrison moved the mic back and forth. Just two queens talking dresses. Helen is gorgeous.
aw geez, they've gone zoolander. already.
They both are. Lucky you.
Who is this lady on ABC? The giantess interviewing? Did she used to read the news on Good Morning America???
I think Tim Gunn should do all the Oscar interviews. Period. He is a stunner. Also the only one articulate enough to put the guest at ease.
I can't really watch any more.
I feel like my eyes are melting.
Yes. GMA or evening news. Robin Somethingorother. Roberts?
Hathaway in red. Nice.
Holy Smokes but Sharon Stone has had some serious work done!!! OMG she looks like she's about completely made of stone!
elle woods, andy sachs, keiser soysaisieahy (sp?), iron man, jude law. bob downey jr. got his act together then got his act together and realized, oh, wait, i have talent. tropic thunder, dude. well done.
I like Robert Downey Jr.
Someone introduce him to Charlie Sheen please.
Helena achieved perfection in Lady Jane. Anne Hathaway's face is too big for her head.
cindy, still waiting on the prayer to whats her face.
moms. undervalued. moms.
natalie. good girl.
i know i go on about moonpie, but she's currently laying on this stupid computer looking up at me with a face that says, "seriously?" gwyn paltrow, chris bale? does it get any better? (yes.)
Hanks' tearful acceptance followed by Boberto Begnini eating the furniture. Nice segue.
Hey...Moonpie....who's a good doggie?
best dog ever. here we go. in the middle of corn fields. here we go.
Whenever I tell someone that I think Anne H is the goods, it about 50/50 on the reply. Either a nod of agreement, or one of those ..Really? kinda looks. Face too big. Mouth too big. Eyes too big. Too pasty.
I'm willing to overlook all of it. I'm there for her.
Go for a ride? Does that get her revved up?
Who's a good dog? Who?
"How'm I doin' Grandma?"
"Are you drunk, grandson?"
Glasses on forehead. Affectation.
Cindy, totally agree about that Robin person from Good Morning America looking ridiculously humungous in that pink dress. But totally disagree on Sharon Stone - I think she looks sensational! And not in a frozen or plastic surgery'd way at all (which I realize may just be the mark of a phenomenal plastic surgeon) If you want to talk plastic surgery - take a look at Kirk Douglas! (although I like him anyway)
I thought James and Anne started out great in that initial opening, and Alec Baldwin was hilarious. But they sort of fizzled on the stage...
Disappointed that Justin Timberlake brought his mom instead of Jessica Biel. He could've waited until after the Oscars to break up with her. Doubt she'll ever get another opportunity to get there again, and I like her.
alec, morgan, anne, jim. setting my alarm for charlie's explanation on today. amy adams. helena. cameron, god help me.
ok. Hate Blanchett's dress (though I love her), adore Annie, adore Franco, used to love Melissa Leo until she campaigned so insanely for this and botoxed herself into ridiculousness. Kurt is just frigging sad. Though I appreciate his sense of humor about himself.
Amy Adams looks great (for a change, she's been in a style rut.) Mila's dress is gorgeous, and if I had that body, I'd wear it all day, every day. Natalie Portman looks awesome. Colin Firth is the guy I'd want the hall pass for. Helena is a lunatic, but a special kind of lunatic. Didn't see what she's wearing tonight to see if it's something from Tim Burton's costume trailer or actual gorgeous.
Helena is wearing a dress by a theatrical costume designer, not a couture designer - and she made a point of mentioning that. Which I like. I mean, she's in the business and supporting it all the way.
Often, she looks like she's supporting the Costume Designer from Mary Poppins in her dotage. Which is sort of dottily charming, and I appreciate she doesn't have traditional sensibilities. I just wish she would marry her nuttiness to her evident beauty. Just make your frippery flattering people.
You know, I wish they had an oscar for "best ending scene"...I absolutely loved the ending in Social Network, where he just keeps refreshing the facebook page of the girl who broke up with him...
i like aaron sorkin (sp?) well enough, but marky mark rules. collin firth. and rooster cockburn (sp?). aaron is a dick. thaw? roger deakins shot shawshank. verna was 97.
I have seen exactly none of these movies. I haven't even seen Toy Story 3.
Who in the hell is that with Helen Mirren!?
Helen Mirren is my freaking idol. I so want to be here when I grow up. Or even now.
Russel Brand....Katy Perry's husband.
Oddest couple ever
I've seen Inception, The Social Network, True Grit, and the King's Speech.
Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect. One of the best things ever made.
(Assuming I should know who Katy Perry is too?)
I wish Geoffrey Rush had won instead of Christian Bale. He should shut up already.
My nephew keeps me updated on that stuff. She's a "pop singer" and he's a comedian/recovering junkie.
chris bale wins.
ABC had to take break to whore themselves out? good times. fairies, please don't leave. seriously. please.
Lots of filler tonight. Same as it ever was.
bright, ask your daughter. I assure you she knows all the words to multiple Katy Perry songs. As do I. For Russell, see "My Bookie Wook" his amusing biography, and "Get Him to the Greek."
Live tweet feed from Ebert...here's a few.
D'ya get the notion a lot of predictions are gonna be wrong tonight?
Is the microphone emitting sleeping gas? Kirk Douglas has had the highest energy so far.
Once again Foreign Language goes to a sleeper, partly because the voters in the category have to actually see the films.
TRENT REZNOR! Now that guy I know! He signed my friend Mel's arm in 1989 after the Peter Murphy show at the Phantasy. She didn't wash her arm for a week.
that's not trent reznor.
Trent Reznor gets an Oscar. The world is in a better orbit tonight. Matt, fire the spray tanner, and Scarlett, buy a brush.
please don't leave. please.
quilts.
cate was fiddling with that envelope. she looked annoyed.
Winter storm watch tonight bud, should be around you Tuesday...wood!
Of course she's annoyed. Her breasts are being held hostage in a lavendar horsehoe.
Okay switters, I'm gonna have to smack you now. Maria, I don't get Kate Blanchett's dress either. That huge circle thing going on in the front, what was she thinking? Hey, lots of people who need speech lessons tonight, anyone else notice that?
No more hostage than Franco's junk in that white leotard. Didn't see him all sour-pussed did you?
Mr President! Send in troops - Cate Blanchett's breasts need democracy!
Kevin Spacey, I wish you weren't gay.
Randy Newman rocks also. I have a copy of his Faust, and I listen when I need a dose of fabulous snark.
and who knew how well he could carry a tune? Or Anne Hathaway, for that matter - she's got perfect pitch. Speaking of singers, Mandy Moore is just exquisite looking.
Ebert tweets....
If Bruce Vilanch is within 50 miles of the Kodak Pavilion, they should helicopter his ass in there and put him to work rewriting this dreck.
Host for next year: Kevin Spacey.
I hope James Franco does better on the oral exam for his PhD.
Didn't Randy Newman sing that song on two or three earlier Oscarcasts?
Anne is a great singer. I've lived through her kid pic years, so I knew that. Not to mention her performance last year on the Oscars; I remember Shirley McLaine telling her she had a lovely singing voice and to "keep doing that."
Ebert's insight is brilliant as always; Kevin Spacey would be awesome.
toy story 3. i used to be funny. right? do you guys know how funny you are???????!!!!!!!!! struggling a bit. i miss the old lady. crud. typos suck.
Note to woman with huge biceps: less is more.
i miss her. such a good person. dammit. she loved award shows. but then i am a momma's boy.
switters, I'm coming over to kick your ass with Nancy if you keep this up. You are still funny, you just need to remember that. Toy Story 3 I didn't see. Yet. Maybe this week.
Maria & Nancy, let me know when the flight arrives, I'll drive us.
ZOMG - the Gregory Brothers for the freaking win!
Annie is workin it. Franco is so high, it's not even funny. Well, actually, it is. bright, it's like our version of Fried Green Tomatoes Grown From Seed.
Sounds good, but I don't want to lose any limbs to trains. I need most of my limbs. Also, I'm pretty sure I can get us a church alibi (if needed!!!)
regulation hottie retard smackdown.
The Onion, I blame you for the inexplicable appearance of Billy Crystal's receding hairline
you are the sweetest and funniest man I've ever met on the internet. I mean that sincerely, and I'm sorry I'm so sarcastic, I can't seem to help it. The day that we all went to the funeral home to pick out my mother's casket - everyone was crying and it was awful. When the funeral director left us alone for a few minutes I got inside of one and laid there with my hands folded in prayer. One of my sisters screamed, then burst out laughing, my brother took a few pictures, then he got in one too, etc., etc., Anyway - after that everything was alright. You'll be alright too, switters.

Did I miss something? Is Billy Crystal getting the first laughs of the evening?
Urgent to producers: You're not running long. You're running slow.
So Mo’nique and Christophe Waltz were just too M*****a-ing in demand to show up to present supporting categories this year?
Since we're getting a half hour of awards to members of the craft unions, can't anybody do a shoutout to their Wisconsin brothers & sisters?
Academy's official transcript reports Melissa Leo said "[EXPLETIVE DELETED]." The words are helpfully in all capital letters and boldface.
Billy! Just take over, Billy. Just take it over.
OMG, topazz, that is the most hilarious thing I've ever read. I actually did a spit-take. I can just see you doing that. Personally, if I buy it early, I want you all to come and make jokes until you all are helpless with laughter.
Oh Lord! I'm going to make my husband re-propose with a kitten.
just call me debbie downer. moonpie is a bit scared by the thunder. thunder? such a good dog. in your various beliefs, will i get to talk to them ever again? turns out music means... what
crap. my dog is fed... such a good dog...
Tuesday is March. I like that. 3 more weeks brother.
Our giant tomcat (who was nicknamed and then permanently named) Kitten Pie is terrified of thunder. He hides under the beds during storms.
God is love, how could you not?
(Maybe Mo’nique and Christophe Waltz are busy arranging to get some democracy for Cate's girls?)
You know, confession time... I actually really like that song Gwyneth sang with Huey Lewis.
switters, have you considered talking to someone who, you know, has more professional skills than faeries? We won't leave. Just not sure if we are helping you enough.
I'm struggling with that too, switters - the finality. I don't know. But the thing is - NOBODY will ever know, nobody can tell you. You have to have faith in something in this life, but Death remains the great mystery of Life. Unless my mother breaks through and gives me that sign I asked her for, I just don't know. And trust me, nobody tried to convert me harder or said more rosaries than she did. If she can, I know she will.
it may not mean much to you, but thank you. thank you, truly.
Debbie Downer is one of my favorite SNL characters of all time. The receptionist in my office is a very negative person, always complaining. The rest of us regularly IM the Debbie Downer noise to each other whenver she gets on a roll. "What's that noise" she always says, such a twit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ_R-G_i4Xk
Natalie Portman is such an awesomely beautiful pregnant woman. What a lovely speech, I'm happy for her tonight. Goodnight everyone!
Damn Natalie!
Gnite Topazz. Peaceful dreams.
Well, the cat's under the bed and Colin Firth has his statue.
Night All.
Thanks guys, see you tomorrow!
You're okay to drive right RD? Where's my coat? Goodnight moviegoers.
thank you, charlie, for making me feel better about myself. also celebrity apprentice asks the question, "should we redefine 'celebrity'?"
(sp?)
Dear Switters -
I've come to the conclusion that you are a Psalmist.
Without question you are of the same caliber of the ones I read each morning, noon and night.
Take some time to sit with this because I do believe it is your calling.
Hugs and love and thanks for the very best live-blog of the Oscars I've read yet!!
Love,
Cindy
what i wouldn't give.
O Lord, why do I have an insatiable love for tea biscuits? Deliver me from this O God of Israel, so that my hips may fit better in the pews where I sing your praises.
I'm feeling a little cranky, switters, so I'm warning you now: one more word about "the one who got away" and I'm going over there to smack you myself. Damn.
Ok. Sorry for the dummy posts. Tia: bring ice and we will have an official smack sense into switters party. I fear the very idea brings joy to his heart.
As for you, young man, has my effort to point you to Ben Folds taught you nothing?
http://www.ilike.com/artist/Ben+Folds/track/Give+Judy+My+Notice?src=onebox
Selah, y'all.
have a good day.
I didn't tell Tia. She figured it out all on her own.
Job is the book of the week in the Office of the Readings this week. With some Augustine's Confessions thrown in for good measure.
I know you're not Catholic, but I think you've got some root that taps into that ancient sort of lamentation wisdom.
:)
You have a good day too.
cindy, tia is brilliant.
